Illinois Student Assistance Commission shall award grants beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year to cover tuition and fees for students attending public institutions of higher learning.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens, Illinois residents, enrolled full or part-time at public institutions, and commit to serve a minimum of 4 years as a law enforcement officer in a local Illinois community after graduation.

Grant amounts are sufficient to pay tuition and fees, capped at the total cost of attendance combined with other financial assistance received by the student in any given fiscal year.

Grant eligibility ends upon graduation, completion of 4 years of enrollment, withdrawal from the institution, or failure to maintain good academic standing.

Grant recipients who fail to complete 4 years of law enforcement service in Illinois must repay all grant assistance received, with amounts prorated based on the portion of service obligation not completed.
