Creates a $500 state income tax credit for individuals who serve as volunteer firefighters or volunteer EMS providers during the taxable year, effective for tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2022

Defines "volunteer firefighter" as a firefighter who does not receive monetary compensation for services to a municipality, county, or fire protection district

Excess credit amounts cannot reduce tax liability below zero but may be carried forward and applied to tax liability for the following 5 taxable years

Amends the Illinois Income Tax Act by adding Section 232

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
