Emergency Medical Services personnel must complete at least one one-hour training course on Alzheimer's disease and other dementias for each license renewal period beginning January 1, 2023.

Training must cover diagnosis, treatment, care assessment, effective communication strategies, and management and care planning for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias.

The one-hour course counts toward the minimum continuing education credit hours required for EMS personnel relicensure.

Training completed to satisfy other state licensure requirements, professional certifications, or health care institutional agreements may also count toward the Alzheimer's disease training requirement.

The Department of Public Health may adopt rules to implement these requirements.
