IL HB4591

Prohibits members of the Illinois General Assembly, their spouses, and immediate family members living with them from engaging in compensated lobbying of any state executive or legislative officials, or any local government or school district officials

Bars these individuals from registering as lobbyists under the Lobbyist Registration Act or any local government lobbying ordinance while the legislator is in office

Violators would be guilty of official misconduct under the Criminal Code of 2012, which is a Class 3 felony, in addition to any other penalties

Replaces the previous, narrower restriction that only prohibited legislators themselves from compensated lobbying of the General Assembly on matters affecting specific interests rather than the general public

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law
