IL HB5193

Amends the School Code's safety education section to include instruction on safe gun storage as part of home safety education in public schools and state-supported educational institutions.

Requires school boards to provide at least 16 hours of safety education instruction per school year across all grades, including the newly added gun storage safety component.

Maintains existing safety education requirements covering automobile safety, recreational safety, school building safety, vocational safety, and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation training for specified grade levels.

Requires educator preparation programs approved by the State Educator Preparation and Licensure Board to include safety education instruction for teachers appropriate to their grade level license.
