Parents who are deaf or do not typically communicate using spoken English are entitled to interpreter services at Section 504 meetings, IEP meetings, and multidisciplinary conferences with school district representatives.

School districts must notify parents in Section 504-related notices that interpreter services are available for parents who are deaf or do not communicate using spoken English.

At all stages of due process hearings or mediation, hearing officers or mediators must require school districts to provide interpreters licensed under the Interpreter for the Deaf Licensure Act of 2007 for persons who are deaf, and qualified interpreters for persons whose primary language is not English.

The State Board of Education must adopt rules establishing criteria, standards, and competencies for bilingual language interpreters who attend IEP meetings to assist parents with limited English proficiency.
