IL HB5357

Amends the Vital Records Act to include physician assistants as "certifying health care professionals" authorized to complete and sign medical certifications of cause of death within 48 hours after death.

Defines "physician assistant" as one who practices under a written collaborative agreement with a physician that includes authority to complete death certificates.

Adds "physician assistant" to the list of professionals who may complete medical certifications in the absence of or with approval from the primary certifying health care professional.

Adds new definitions to the Vital Records Act including "intersex condition," "homeless person," "advanced practice registered nurse," and "licensed mental health professional."

Requires death certificates to provide an opportunity to indicate if death was caused by dementia-related disease, Parkinson's Disease, or Parkinson-Dementia Complex.
