Currently Illinois and the federal government prohibit licensed professional counselors (LPCs) and licensed social workers (LSWs) from billing Medicare/Medicaid for services.

LPCs and LSWs must complete supervision with fully licensed clinicians (LCPCs or LCSWs) for at least one hour per week as they work toward full licensure.

The lengthy licensure process delays mental health service access for vulnerable populations and complicates staffing at agencies facing mental health professional shortages.

Urges Illinois lawmakers and the federal government to allow LPCs and LSWs to bill Medicare/Medicaid while under proper supervision by fully licensed providers.

Directs delivery of the resolution to the President, Vice President, Illinois Congressional Delegation, Governor Pritzker, and all Illinois General Assembly members.
