HR0318 - Protect Immigrant Community

• Urges U.S. Congress to pass legislation advancing human rights and protections for immigrants in the United States.

• Identifies specific bills pending in Congress including the American Right to Family Act (HR1435), New Way Forward Act (HR536), Farmworker Modernization Act (HR1537), Dream & Promise Act (HR6), U.S. Citizenship Act (HR1177), and DREAM Act of 2021 (S264).

• Documents that Illinois is home to 1.8 million immigrants (14% of state population in 2018) who contributed $12.7 billion in federal taxes and $7.7 billion in state/local taxes in 2018.

• Highlights that approximately 5.9 million U.S. citizen children have at least one undocumented caregiver, and that family separation due to immigration enforcement causes economic hardship, housing instability, and food insecurity.

• Directs copies of the resolution be delivered to the President, congressional leadership, and all members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation.
