The Illinois House of Representatives congratulates the United States Army Reserve on its 114th birthday, celebrated on April 23rd.

The U.S. Army Reserve was established on April 23, 1908, when Congress created the Medical Reserve Corps with 160 doctors, later expanded through the National Defense Act of 1916 to include the Officers' Reserve Corps and Enlisted Reserve Corps.

The Army Reserve currently has a congressionally authorized strength of 199,000 soldiers, more than 11,000 civilians, and 2,075 units operating in all 50 states, five U.S. territories, and 30 countries.

The resolution acknowledges the Army Reserve's service throughout major historical events including World War II, the Cold War, Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf War, and the Global War on Terror.

A suitable copy of this resolution will be presented to the U.S. Army Reserve as a symbol of esteem and respect.
