The Illinois House of Representatives congratulates the Kankakee High School girls track and field team (Lady Kays) on winning the IHSA Class 2A Finals with 74 points, 23 more than runner-up University High School.

The Lady Kays won six events with seven athletes earning 17 combined medals, including freshman Naomi Bey-Osborne who won four titles (200-meter dash in 25.22 seconds, 400-meter dash in 56.53 seconds, 4x100-meter relay in 48.35 seconds, and 4x400-meter relay in 3:57.93).

Sophomore Na'Kyrah Cooks won the long jump with a distance of 5.44 meters, and junior Nevaeh Lowe placed third in the 100-meter dash (12.68 seconds) and 200-meter dash (25.75 seconds) while anchoring the 4x200-meter relay victory.

The Kankakee High School boys track team (Chief Kays) also won the IHSA Class 2A Finals, marking the first team state championships ever won by Kankakee High School in either sport.

The teams were led by Head Coach Marques Lowe and assistant coaches who had lost two colleagues, assistant coaches Jemiya Bates (died of brain cancer) and Chwan Wilson (died from COVID-19 complications).
