The Potawatomi Trail of Death involved the forced removal of approximately 859 Potawatomi nation members from Indiana to Kansas reservation lands by militia in 1838, resulting in 42 deaths including 28 children during the journey.

The Trail of Death passed through Decatur in what is now Mueller Park, where a historical marker called "The Rock" was placed in 1994 by Zita and Bernard Wright to commemorate the trail.

The Illinois Department of Transportation is requested to erect plaques or signs at suitable locations consistent with state and federal regulations to direct people to the Trail of Death historical marker.

A copy of the resolution shall be delivered to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation.
