Illinois House of Representatives mourns the death of Barbara Jean Tatum, who passed away on June 8, 2022.

Tatum was born November 16, 1938 in Meridian, Mississippi and worked as a legal secretary in the federal government and as an administrative secretary to the former Mayor of Urbana.

Served as director of Christian Education at Canaan Baptist Church, teaching classes on relationships, discipleship, child evangelism, and women's spiritual growth; conducted seminars and workshops across the United States and internationally in Greece.

Held leadership positions as president of the Women's Department of the Progressive Baptist District Association of Chicago and Vicinity and served on boards for the American Cancer Society, Canaan Development Foundation, and Canaan Credit Union.

Survived by her husband, two daughters, one son, four grandsons, one sister, and other relatives; a copy of the resolution will be presented to her family.
