Recognizes the Rend Lake Conservancy District, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on the 50th anniversary of building Rend Lake.

Rend Lake was authorized by the Flood Control Act of October 23, 1962, as a $60 million multipurpose project completed ahead of schedule near Benton, Illinois.

The project serves flood control on the Big Muddy and Mississippi Rivers, water supply, water quality control, fish and wildlife conservation, recreation, and area redevelopment.

Rend Lake supplies over 15 million gallons of water daily to 300,000 persons in over 60 communities and brings millions of tourists and sportsmen to Southern Illinois.

A 50th anniversary celebration was held on September 10, 2022, at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Rend Lake Project Office & Visitor Center.
