Urges the federal government to expand legal protections for asylum seekers and expedite employment authorization for those arriving in the United States.

Addresses the arrival of significant numbers of asylum seekers at the southern border in 2022 who were authorized entry as non-citizens and subsequently transported by bus to cities including Chicago, New York City, and Washington, D.C.

Notes that asylum seekers arriving in Illinois are ineligible for certain immigration remedies available to other recent immigrant populations (such as those from Ukraine and Afghanistan) and cannot apply for employment authorization documents for at least six months after arrival.

Calls for modernization of federal immigration law to support immigrant communities and allow asylum seekers to work and provide for their families.

Directs delivery of this resolution to the Illinois Congressional Delegation to demonstrate state support for expedited employment authorization and legal protections for asylum seekers.
