Beginning with the 2023 registration year, trailer owners may opt to purchase permanent registration plates for a one-time fee of $118 for trailers with a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or less.

Owners issued permanent trailer plates are exempt from paying annual flat weight tax and registration fees.

Reduces the annual flat weight tax and registration fee for trailers weighing 3,000 pounds or less from $118 to $18 for those who do not purchase the permanent plate option.

The $1 portion of collected trailer fees normally deposited to the Secretary of State Special Services Fund does not apply to trailers with a gross weight of 3,000 pounds or less.
