SB0147 Summary

• Establishes an annual open enrollment period for Medicare supplement policyholders ages 65-75, lasting 45 days commencing with the individual's birthday, during which they may switch to any comparable or lesser benefit Medicare supplement policy from the same issuer.

• Prohibits insurers from denying coverage, conditioning issuance, or discriminating in pricing based on health status, claims experience, receipt of health care, or medical conditions during the open enrollment period.

• Requires insurers to provide notice of the annual open enrollment period to eligible Medicare supplement policyholders when applications are made for Medicare supplement policies or certificates, in a form prescribed by the Department.

• Takes effect on January 1, 2022.
