SB0222 Summary: Small Wireless Facilities Deployment Act

• Amends the Small Wireless Facilities Deployment Act to change collocation requirements from "propose" to "require" that small wireless facilities use existing utility poles within 200 feet (increased from 100 feet) of proposed locations when technically and financially feasible.

• Requires wireless providers to submit documentation and certification that small wireless facilities and equipment meet all FCC standards and regulations at the provider's sole cost and expense, including ongoing compliance verification.

• Adds acoustic regulations to the list of generally applicable standards that authorities may require wireless providers to comply with in rights-of-way.

• Repeals Section 90 of the Small Wireless Facilities Deployment Act, which was scheduled to expire the entire Act on June 1, 2021.

• Amends the Illinois Municipal Code to authorize municipalities to require small wireless facilities be collocated on existing utility poles in public rights-of-way, with utility pole owners charging fees at their lowest rate not exceeding actual costs.
