Prohibits schools from enforcing dress codes or uniform policies that restrict hairstyles historically associated with race, ethnicity, or hair texture, including protective styles such as braids, locks, and twists.

Applies the hairstyle protection requirement to public school boards, charter schools, and non-public schools seeking state recognition.

Requires the State Board of Education to develop and make available resource materials by July 1, 2022 regarding protected hairstyles in consultation with stakeholders.

Schools that violate these hairstyle protections in their dress code policies are subject to penalties under Section 2-3.25 of the School Code.

Effective January 1, 2022.
