IL SB1553

Amends the Criminal Code of 2012 to create a new offense under Section 12C-5 for knowingly causing or permitting a child to be placed in circumstances that cause bodily injury to the child

Establishes the new bodily injury offense as a Class 4 felony

Maintains existing penalties for the general child endangerment offense: Class A misdemeanor for first violation, Class 3 felony for second or subsequent violations

Retains the Class 3 felony classification (2-10 years imprisonment) when a violation is the proximate cause of a child's death

Preserves existing provisions allowing parents found in violation to be sentenced to probation under Section 12C-15
