IL SB1658

Amends the Weights and Measures Act to require all weighing or measuring devices to be placed into service and sealed before first use in trade by a registered serviceperson, service agency, special sealer, or inspector.

Authorizes breaking seals on weighing or measuring devices only for testing, calibration, adjustment, or repair by registered servicepersons, service agencies, special sealers, or inspectors.

Requires resealing devices after servicing with a seal displaying the sealer's registration number assigned by the Director, with the sealer becoming responsible for the unit after resealing.

Mandates written notice to the Director within 5 days when a seal is broken and resealed so the Department can conduct a recheck.

Requires tamper evident labels with the sealer's registration number and audit trail or event counter counts on devices using electronic sealing methods, with counts also entered on placed in-service and test reports.
