IL SB1680

Amends Illinois Vehicle Code Section 11-1414.1 to allow multifunction school activity buses (MFSAB) to transport students in grades 9-12 participating in career exploration programs with parental or guardian approval.

Adds a new exception to the requirement that students must be transported in standard school buses, permitting MFSAB use for curriculum-related activities except regular home-to-school or school-to-home routes.

Requires MFSAB drivers to hold valid school bus driver permits and comply with Sections 6-106.11, 6-106.12, 12-707.01, 13-101, and 13-109 of the Illinois Vehicle Code.

Maintains existing exceptions for students in grades 9-12 or students in grades K-12 with an IEP and a 1:5 staff-to-student ratio attending specified schools (Acacia Academy, Alexander Leigh, Marklund, and others).

Effective July 1, 2021.
