SB1713 - Fire and Smoke Damper Inspection Act

• Requires commercial structures with fire and smoke dampers to have them inspected and tested within one year after installation, then at least once every 4 years thereafter.

• Requires hospitals with fire and smoke dampers to have inspections and testing at least once every 6 years.

• Inspections must be conducted by individuals certified by the International Certification Board and American National Standards Institute, and must certify compliance with Section 717 of the 2012 International Building Code.

• Establishes 12 specific inspection and testing requirements, including verifying damper operation, checking for damage or obstructions, testing with smoke detectors, removing and reinstalling fusible links, and maintaining detailed documentation of inspections and any deficiencies found.

• Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
