State policemen may elect to convert service credit earned under the State Employee Article to eligible creditable service under the alternative retirement annuity formula by filing a written election and making a specified contribution.

The conversion of service credit to eligible creditable service is not subject to the 12-year limit on eligible creditable service that normally applies.

State policemen may elect to establish up to 5 years of eligible creditable service for work as municipal police officers, county corrections officers, or court services officers by filing an application and making a specified contribution.

Any benefit increase resulting from this amendatory act is excluded from the definition of "new benefit increase" under pension law.

The act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
