Secretary of State may issue special registration plates designated for volunteer firefighters upon request from municipalities or fire protection districts that operate fire departments.

Special plates may be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division or motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds owned by fire departments or volunteer firefighters.

Fee for volunteer firefighter plates shall be the same as the fee prescribed for standard first division vehicles under Section 3-806 of the Illinois Vehicle Code.

Permanent license plates for volunteer firefighter vehicles owned by municipal fire departments or fire protection districts shall be issued at the fee prescribed in Section 3-808.1.

Plate design and color are at the discretion of the Secretary of State and are not required to include "Land of Lincoln" designation.
