IL SB1884

Amends the State Police Act to grant hiring preference to relatives of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty, specifically sons, daughters, stepsons, stepdaughters, grandsons, granddaughters, brothers, or sisters.

Preference applicants must meet all standard State Police officer qualifications including age requirements (21 years old or 20 with an associate's degree or 60 college credit hours), sound mind and body, good moral character, U.S. citizenship, no criminal records, and pass required mental and physical examinations.

Creates two tiers of hiring preference: first for those with military service, and second for relatives of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty as defined in the Line of Duty Compensation Act.

Appointees serve a 12-month probationary period and may be discharged at the Director's discretion, with possible extension up to 6 additional months.

Effective immediately upon becoming law.
