Requires the University of Illinois Hospital to adopt policies ensuring surgical smoke plume evacuation systems are used for all procedures involving energy-based devices such as electrosurgery and lasers.

Requires ambulatory surgical treatment centers licensed under the Ambulatory Surgical Treatment Center Act to adopt policies mandating surgical smoke plume evacuation systems for procedures generating surgical smoke plume.

Requires hospitals licensed under the Hospital Licensing Act to adopt policies ensuring surgical smoke plume evacuation systems are used for all procedures involving energy-based devices.

Defines surgical smoke plume as the by-product of energy-based devices on tissue containing hazardous materials including bio-aerosols, smoke, gases, tissue and cellular fragments, particulates, and viruses.

Requires the University of Illinois Hospital, ambulatory surgical treatment centers, and licensed hospitals to report to the Department of Public Health within 90 days of the law's effective date confirming adoption of the required evacuation policies.
