IL SB1922

Amends the Firearm Owners Identification Card Act to allow the Director of Illinois State Police or circuit court to grant relief from federal firearm prohibitions when the prohibition is based solely on a provision of the Criminal Code of 2012 that would no longer apply upon granting relief.

Allows persons prohibited under Criminal Code sections 24-1.1 or 24-3.1 to apply for relief from firearm possession prohibitions if they meet criteria including no forcible felony conviction within 20 years and demonstration they will not act dangerously to public safety.

Establishes expedited relief process for active law enforcement officers with mental health-related card denials or seizures, requiring Director to act within 30 business days upon receipt of proper documentation and fitness-for-duty evaluation.

Creates relief procedure for applicants with developmental or intellectual disabilities denied cards or having cards seized, with Director acting within 60 business days if disability is certified as mild by a physician or clinical psychologist.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
