IL SB1923

Authorizes the Supreme Court marshal's office to employ court security officers responsible for maintaining security at courthouses and courtrooms occupied by the Supreme Court or Appellate Court.

Court security officers hired by the marshal must meet the same training requirements and possess the same arrest authority as court security officers hired by county sheriffs under Illinois Counties Code Section 3-6012.1.

Arrest powers of court security officers are limited to performance of their official duties.

Qualified court security officers may carry weapons at their workplace and while traveling to and from employment, provided they complete basic police training approved by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board or receive a waiver based on prior law enforcement experience.

Act takes effect immediately upon passage.
