SB2175 Summary

• Establishes the Department of Innovation and Technology Act as the legislative implementation of Executive Order 2016-001, with the Act controlling in any conflict with the Executive Order.

• Transfers information technology functions and personnel from multiple state agencies (including Central Management Services, Office of the Governor, and 26+ other designated agencies) to the Department of Innovation and Technology.

• Designates the Secretary of Innovation and Technology as the state's chief information officer and steward of state data, appointed by the Governor with Senate consent.

• Grants the Department authority to procure, operate, and maintain IT equipment and systems for state agencies; establish IT standards and policies; coordinate communications services; and charge agencies for IT services through the Technology Management Revolving Fund.

• Repeals Sections 1-20, 1-30, 1-50, 1-55, and 1-60 of the Department of Innovation and Technology Act and updates related provisions in the State Finance Act.
