IL SB2305

Creates the Illinois School Social Work Shortage Loan Repayment Program under the Higher Education Student Assistance Commission to provide grants to eligible school social workers.

Awards grants of up to $6,500 per year to qualified applicants, with funds intended to encourage use for educational loan repayment related to social work degrees.

Requires applicants to be U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens, Illinois residents, have outstanding educational loans for social work degrees, and be currently employed as school social workers in Illinois public elementary or secondary schools for at least 12 consecutive months.

Directs the Commission to prioritize applicants who are members of underrepresented communities in the school social work field in Illinois.

Effective July 1, 2022, subject to separate appropriation.
