IL SB2359

Amends the Criminal Code of 2012 to add an exemption to the prohibition on electronic tracking devices for licensed private detectives and private investigators using such devices for legitimate business purposes.

Licensed private detectives and investigators may install and use electronic tracking devices only if the person being tracked is not under the protection of a domestic violence protective order.

Maintains existing exemptions for electronic tracking devices used with consent of vehicle owners/lessees, by law enforcement, by businesses tracking employee vehicles, by state agencies, and for vehicle telematics services.

Violation of the electronic tracking device prohibition remains a Class A misdemeanor.
