IL SB2366

Amends the Illinois Highway Code to require the Department of Transportation to establish and solely fund bicycle and pedestrian ways in or within one mile of urban areas during construction, reconstruction, or modification of State transportation facilities.

Exempts pavement resurfacing projects that do not widen the existing traveled way or provide stabilized shoulders from the bicycle and pedestrian way requirement.

Allows the Secretary of Transportation to approve exemptions based on documented safety issues, excessive cost, or absence of need.

Permits bicycle and pedestrian accommodations in pavement resurfacing projects when local support is evident or when additions can be made within the original scope of roadwork.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
