IL SB2400

Members of the General Assembly, their spouses, and immediate family members living with them are prohibited from accepting compensation for lobbying or acting as a lobbyist under state or local registration requirements.

Covered individuals cannot communicate with state executive, legislative, or local government officials for compensation with the purpose of influencing executive, legislative, or administrative action.

Violations constitute a Class A misdemeanor, and violating members of the General Assembly forfeit their office.

Defines "lobbyist" to include individuals receiving compensation to influence legislation, designated representatives of organizations promoting legislative changes, and government representatives advocating for policy modifications.

Repeals previous provisions that permitted legislators to lobby without accepting compensation and takes effect immediately upon enactment.
