IL SB2536

Prohibits statewide elected officials, executive or administrative heads of State agencies, deputy heads of State agencies, and General Assembly members from becoming lobbyists for 2 years after leaving office or employment.

Adds a new definition of "lobbyist" to the State Officials and Employees Ethics Act covering individuals who receive compensation to influence legislation, rules, or executive orders, or serve as designated representatives of organizations with that purpose.

Maintains existing 1-year cooling-off period for former officers and employees from accepting employment with entities that received State contracts valued at $25,000 or more or were subject to regulatory decisions by their agency.

Applies to the new 2-year lobbyist prohibition beginning June 25, 2021, requiring compliance from high-level State officials and legislators transitioning to lobbying positions.
