SB2566 Summary

• Amends the Nurse Practice Act to require certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) providing anesthesia services outside hospitals, ambulatory surgical treatment centers, or hospital affiliates to enter into written collaborative agreements with a physician, podiatric physician, or dentist.

• Exempts the delivery of anesthesia during surgical procedures performed by a physician, dentist, or podiatrist from the requirement that a collaborating physician be physically present at the location where services are rendered.

• Removes previous detailed regulations governing CRNA collaborative agreements with anesthesiologists and operating physicians, replacing them with simplified requirements allowing collaboration with physicians, podiatric physicians, or dentists.

• Maintains existing provisions requiring advanced practice registered nurses to have written collaborative agreements when practicing outside hospitals and ambulatory surgical treatment centers, with limitations on patient restrictions, third-party payor limitations, and geographic restrictions.

• Effective immediately upon becoming law.
