IL SB2977

Prohibits patients, administrators, agents, employees, and medical staff members from abusing patients in hospitals.

Requires hospital administrators, agents, employees, and medical staff members with reasonable cause to believe abuse has occurred to report it to a designated hospital administrator within 24 hours, who must then report to the Department.

Mandates hospitals conduct internal reviews to ensure victim safety, including potential removal of suspected violators from patient contact, and requires all internal review findings be documented and available to the Department.

Provides immunity from civil, professional, and criminal liability for individuals making abuse reports in good faith, except for willful or wanton misconduct.

Requires all hospital employees receive training in detecting and reporting patient abuse upon hiring and at least every 2 years thereafter; protects reporters from retaliation.
