SB3025 - Naturopathic Medical Practice Act

• Creates the Naturopathic Medical Practice Act to establish licensure and regulation of naturopathic physicians in Illinois through a new Naturopathic Physician Medical Board.

• Requires naturopathic physician applicants to graduate from approved educational programs, pass professional and pharmacy examinations administered by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners, and maintain professional liability insurance.

• Defines naturopathic medicine scope of practice including performing physical examinations, ordering laboratory tests, prescribing herbs/supplements/homeopathic medicines, administering injections, and performing minor office procedures, while prohibiting surgery beyond minor procedures and use of general anesthetics.

• Establishes a 9-member Board consisting of 5 licensed naturopathic physicians, 2 MDs with naturopathic experience, and 2 public members to oversee licensure, continuing education requirements, and disciplinary actions.

• Amends the Illinois Controlled Substances Act to include naturopathic physicians as recognized practitioners authorized to prescribe and dispense controlled substances in Schedules II-V consistent with their scope of practice.
