SB3070 Summary: Knight-Silas Legacy Act

• Adds aggravated battery provisions protecting Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) employees, including direct employees and contracted workers, case workers, and investigators.

• Creates a new offense when a person age 21 or older causes great bodily harm or permanent disability/disfigurement to a DCFS employee while the employee is performing official duties, preventing duty performance, or retaliating for duty performance.

• Defines "Department of Children and Family Services employee" to include any DCFS employee or workers employed by agencies providing social work, case work, or investigative services under contract or grant from DCFS.

• Establishes penalties: Class 2 felony for aggravated battery against DCFS employees; Class 1 felony if the battery causes great bodily harm or permanent disability/disfigurement.

• Effective immediately upon becoming law.
