Professional Educator Licenses must be renewed every 5 years with 120 hours of professional development, except administrators (100 hours) and National Board certified teachers (60 hours).

Licenses lapse on September 1 if not renewed; lapsed licenses may be reinstated by paying a $500 penalty or completing 9 semester hours of coursework in the educator's content area.

Professional development hours required under the 2021-2022 school year renewal cycle are reduced by 20%.

Approved providers of professional development include the State Board of Education, regional offices of education, higher education institutions, school districts, professional associations, and museums.

Licensees in non-educator positions, part-time employees, retirees, and those with active professional licenses in related fields are exempt from professional development hour requirements and need only pay registration fees.
