SB3755 - Road Designation Program Act

• Establishes a designation program allowing individuals to petition the Illinois Department of Transportation to name interstate or State-numbered highway interchanges, bridges, or highway segments after Illinois citizens or persons with long-standing ties to the state.

• Requires applicants to submit a description of the road to be designated and obtain letters of sponsorship from the Illinois State Representative and State Senator for each district where the road is located, attesting to the individual's merit.

• Department issues preliminary approval with a fee amount, then submits the recommendation to sponsoring legislators; upon their approval, the petitioner must pay the fee to cover construction and erection costs.

• Two signs must be erected for each designation, and all fees collected are deposited into the Road Fund; signs must comply with all applicable federal and state highway signage regulations.

• No interchange, bridge, or highway segment with an existing designation may be renamed, and posthumous honorary designations are permitted.
