IL SB3761

Expands the School and Municipal Social Work Shortage Loan Repayment Program to include social workers employed by Illinois municipalities who do not report directly to police departments, in addition to school social workers.

Provides grants up to $6,500 annually to qualified applicants beginning July 1, 2022, with funds intended for educational loan repayment related to social work degrees.

Requires applicants to be U.S. citizens or eligible noncitizens, Illinois residents, have outstanding educational loans for social work degrees, and be currently employed as school social workers or municipal social workers (not reporting to police departments).

Prioritizes grant allocation to racial minorities (Black, Hispanic, Asian American, and American Indian or Alaskan Native individuals) among new qualified applicants when funding is insufficient for all applicants.

Directs the Commission to allocate limited funds based on application submission dates, first prioritizing racial minority applicants, then other new qualified applicants.
