IL SB3817

Amends the Illinois Election Code to prohibit political committees from using funds for the legal defense of public officials or candidates in connection with offenses involving fraud, bribery, official misconduct, inducement to commit misconduct, infamous crimes, or any offense reflecting on the official's character, honesty, integrity, or fitness for office.

Defines "legal defense" as obtaining, providing, or financially assisting with legal counsel, representation, services, advice, opinion, or guidance for a public official or candidate.

Applies the prohibition to offenses under State or federal law that involve a public entity's officer or employee or that reflect upon an official's or candidate's qualifications for public office.

Takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
