• Beginning with the 2028-2029 school year, foreign language courses required for high school graduation may include machine control language in addition to traditional foreign languages and American Sign Language.

• Students entering 9th grade in 2028-2029 and later must complete 2 years of foreign language courses to receive a high school diploma, with the option to use machine control language to satisfy this requirement.

• A third year of foreign language study can be used to satisfy the arts/elective requirement under existing graduation standards.

• The provision does not apply to students entering 9th grade before 2028-2029 or to students with disabilities whose course of study is determined by an individualized education program.

• The Act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
