IL SB3983

Reduces the first probationary period for teachers from 4 consecutive school terms to 3 consecutive school terms, requiring "Proficient" ratings in all 3 terms (rather than in either the second or third term only).

Shortens the second probationary period from 3 consecutive school terms to 2 consecutive school terms, requiring 2 "Excellent" overall annual evaluations (rather than 3).

Changes the third probationary period to require 2 "Proficient" evaluations (rather than "Excellent" evaluations) for experienced teachers who previously held tenure in another Illinois district.

Applies only to teachers first employed on or after the PERA implementation date in school districts with fewer than 500,000 inhabitants.

Takes effect July 1, 2023.
