• Expands hearing aid coverage for individuals under age 65 (previously age 18) when prescribed by a hearing care professional to augment communication.

• Requires coverage of annual hearing examinations, medically necessary hearing instruments, and related services without co-payments, co-insurance, deductibles, or out-of-pocket limits.

• Limits coverage to one hearing instrument per ear every 36 months, with hearing exams covered every 12 months and repairs covered when medically necessary.

• Applies requirements to individual and group accident and health insurance policies, managed care plans, and self-insured plans for state employees, counties, municipalities, and schools amended, delivered, issued, or renewed after the effective date.

• Makes conforming changes to the State Employees Group Insurance Act, Counties Code, Illinois Municipal Code, School Code, Limited Health Service Organization Act, and Medical Assistance provisions of the Illinois Public Aid Code.
