Illinois Senate recognizes the death of Joseph Edward "Joe" Ziegler of Rock Island, who passed away on May 9, 2022, at age 96.

Ziegler was born August 16, 1925, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, graduated from Rock Island High School in 1944, and worked as a security officer at Rock Island Arsenal for 27 years before retiring in 1986.

Member of St. Pius X Catholic Church who was known for woodworking, carving canes, and home maintenance; characterized as a man of dignity, honesty, integrity, and unconditional love for family.

Survived by five children, 16 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and their families; preceded in death by wife Virginia May Long (died November 19, 2018) and multiple siblings.

Senate extends sincere condolences to Ziegler's family and directs that a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to them as an expression of sympathy.
