Judge Ramón Manuel Escapa of Rushville passed away on June 19, 2022.

Escapa was born December 24, 1979 in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico; graduated from Rushville High School in 1998; earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Western Illinois University in 2004; and received his Juris Doctor from Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 2008.

Escapa served as a deputy for the Schuyler County Sheriff's Office, police officer for the Beardstown Police Department, state's attorney of Schuyler County (elected 2012 and twice reelected), and circuit judge in the Eighth Judicial Circuit (appointed 2020).

Escapa served 12 years in the U.S. Army National Guard as a JAG Corps officer and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Rushville Masonic Lodge #9, Knights of Columbus, and the Illinois Latino Judges Association.

The Illinois Senate expresses condolences to Escapa's surviving family, including his wife Michelle, four children, mother, and siblings.
