Gerald Evans Gill of Michigan, formerly of Virginia, Illinois, passed away on July 23, 2022, and the Illinois Senate expresses its condolences to his family.

Gill was born in Cass County on July 19, 1931, graduated from Virginia High School, completed education at Knox College and the University of Miami, and served in the U.S. Navy.

Gill founded and served as board chairman of CassComm, a telecommunications company providing telephone, television, long distance, and internet service to more than 30 communities in central Illinois.

Gill pioneered cable television technology in the 1960s by creating Cass Community Antenna Television, Inc. (CATV) in Beardstown in 1965, and actively participated in building, purchasing, upgrading, and selling cable systems nationwide.

Gill is survived by his wife Mary, son Gerald S. Gill, sister Wendy, and multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
