Illinois Senate mourns the death of Ethel Lee Chestnut-Sharkey, who passed away on August 30, 2021.

Ethel Chestnut-Sharkey was born October 20, 1933 in Drew, Mississippi; married Howard Sharkey Sr. in 1950 and had 11 children.

Worked as a cafeteria clerk for Chicago Public Schools, retired as salad chef from The Exchange Bank, and later worked part-time with Helping Home.

Maintained over 60-year membership at Fellowship M.B. Church, serving in the Inspirational Choir and Senior Choir and receiving the Anchor Award.

Survived by 10 sons, 8 daughters, 53 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
